Before heading over to Grand Park on Sunday, we forced ourselves up “early” and headed to Perch for brunch. Perch has been open for a year or so now, but I’ve always meant to take some pictures of the cute space. As cliche as it may be at this point, I love the birds! Perch has some of the best views in downtown and is a perfect place for a date (if you plan accordingly). It’s not as “Hollywood” as most rooftop bars in LA tend to be, which I think is a big part of its draw. This area used to be very dead, so it’s a testament to its legitimacy that it’s maintained its popularity this whole time. Definitely one of my favorite places to grab a drink, non-rush hours only.
Tourist tip: If you want the ultimate what’s-popular-in-DTLA date night, start early to Seven Grand for a pre-dinner whiskey, cross the street to Bottega Louie for dinner (actually, put your name down first then go to Seven Grand), and then get to Perch for the city night lights view. If you get restless and it’s before 2AM, catch a cab to Wurstkuche for some duck/rattlesnake/alligator/rabbit sausages and belgian beer. [UPDATE June 2013: My new favorite restaurant recommendation in DLTA is Bestia in the Arts District.]
Anyway, have I mentioned that brunch is the best? Not necessarily at Perch, just anywhere. But it doesn’t hurt that they have $12 champagne bottles that include a little carafe of organic fruit puree (yes it’s ultimate hipster/yuppie land here).
